Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) tell you how energy efficient a building is and give it a rating from A (very efficient) to G (inefficient).  An EPC also includes information on what the energy efficiency rating could be if you made the recommended improvements and highlights cost effective ways to achieve a better rating. EPCs are valid for 10 years from the date of issue.  EPCs are now required for all dwellings that are newly built, sold or let.  Therefore, around 185,000 dwellings in County Durham currently have an EPC, out of an estimated 267,000 residential dwelling spaces.

EPCs provide information on the energy efficiency of insulation in your home, including, wall, floor, roof and window insulation. Further information is available on the GOV.UK website.
