Meet the Team

Matt I am the Public Health Strategic Manager for REACH County Durham. I have held numerous health promotion and public health roles over the last 2 decades, beginning in my homeland of Orkney, before relocating to Cornwall for 8 years. In 2015 I came back to Durham where I first studied, which is where my interest in public health first piqued. In my role I hope to help make research engaging and inclusive for residents, to gain valuable insights that can have a positive and practical impact for our communities. Outside work, come rain or shine, you’ll find me running on the coast or in the fells. |

Rio I am the Community Involvement Lead for REACH County Durham through project partner, Durham Community Action. I have worked in project and community engagement roles in both the voluntary sector and in educational settings throughout County Durham for the past 14 years. I hope that my enthusiasm for people, the power of meaningful research and the importance of place-based learning will contribute towards the vision of this project. I love exploring all things outdoor and am usually seen either wheelbarrowing to my allotment, walking the dog or cycling to the golf course with my kids. |

I have many years of experience in programme management and public health advocacy work with and on behalf of individuals and communities. I am passionate about networking and collaboration, and in this role, I am looking forward to contributing to developing research projects that result in positive, practical outcomes for communities across County Durham. In my free time I love hiking, baking and playing the flute. |

Jonathan I am the Strategic Research Lead: Wider Determinants of Health for REACH County Durham. I am a health inequalities researcher with an interest in spatial inequalities, social contract theory and complexity. I am excited to be working in this collaboration and to help achieve its vision. I work at Durham University in the Department of Sociology and as a co-director in the Wolfson Research Institute for Health and Wellbeing and the Durham Research Methods Centre. When not working, I like to play music, go on steam trains, do a spot of gardening, and play football. |
