The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has released a public consultation around the 2031 Census Topics. This initial consultation invites comments from organisations and individuals on the initial views of the ONS as to the content (Topics) of the 2031 Census questionnaire for England and Wales. This consultation is the first step towards ONS understanding how best to meet user’s information need. It forms the starting point to promote discussion and encourage the development of strong cases for topics and sub-topics to be included in the 2031 Census. The focus, therefore, of consultation is on information required and not the detailed questions on the final questionnaire. The consultation closes 4th February 2026.
